Care for your concrete
Concrete can become dull, dirty, and dry over time—especially outdoors. To prevent your newly purchased concrete furniture from drying out, it’s a good idea to apply a conditioner. The conditioner protects against the penetration of lime, water, coffee, red wine, and similar substances.
The conditioner can enhance the color, making the treated item slightly darker. We always recommend testing on a non-visible area before starting. How often you need to reapply depends entirely on temperature fluctuations, sunlight, use, and wear.
A good way to check is to feel the concrete—if it feels silky to the touch and water forms beads on the surface, it's well-saturated; if it has become rough to the touch, you may be a bit late in starting the reapplication.
Here’s how we recommend you clean and maintain your concrete surface:
Before you begin, you should have the following items ready:
micare cleaning soap, micare multi surface conditioner, a scrubbing sponge, two microfiber cloths, and a suitable polishing cloth.
- Start by lightly moistening your concrete furniture.
- Use the included OEKO-TEX certified sponge to apply the cleaning soap, massaging in circular motions. Let the soap work in, wet-on-wet, for about 15-20 minutes.
- For stubborn dirt and lime, use the rough side of a scrubbing sponge. If the furniture is very dirty, we recommend rinsing the cleaning sponge/scrubbing sponge with warm water as you go
- Wash off soap residue and lime with a damp microfiber cloth and warm water.
- Allow the item to dry completely before applying the multi surface conditioner. Dip the included sponge into the multi surface conditioner and wipe off any excess on the edge.
- Apply the multi surface conditioner in a very thin layer by massaging it in circular motions. Make sure to cover all edges and crevices.
- Polish with a suitable polishing cloth. Smoothly polished concrete should always be polished afterward. The furniture is ready for immediate use.
If the item feels greasy, you've used too much multi surface conditioner. The multi surface conditioner is easiest to work with at room temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius.
If you have a lot of lime in your water and trouble keeping your concrete free of lime, we recommend cleaning with micare naturclean, which easily handles coarser dirt.
